Seacoast School of Technology Begins 25th Anniversary Celebration on Monday, August 30th

Record Enrollment and New Schedule Highlight Career
& Technical Education Center’s 25th Year

The Seacoast School of Technology in Exeter will begin a year-long observance of its 25th Anniversary when school opens on Monday, August 30th. Over 550 new and returning students from Epping, Exeter, Newmarket, Raymond, Sanborn Regional, and Winnacunnet high schools will take part in the annual SST orientation program designed to highlight the programs and activities planned for the coming school year. “The orientation program is planned and taught by the teachers to help begin the year on a positive note, ” according to SST Principal Nancy Pierce. “It’s a great way for the students from our six high schools and the SST teachers to get to know one another.” All students are expected to attend SST on Monday, August 30th to begin their orientation. Transportation from Raymond, Sanborn Regional, and Winnacunnet high schools will be provided.

Highlighting the 2004-05 school will be a new schedule at SST. For the first time in the Center’s history, there will be two morning Year I classes and an afternoon Year II class. New students from Epping, Exeter, Newmarket, and Raymond will attend the AM Session from 7:45 – 9:20 a.m. New students from Exeter, Sanborn Regional, and Winnacunnet will attend the MID Session from 9:25 – 10:55 a.m. Returning students from all high schools will attend the PM Session from 11:45 – 1:45 p.m. According to Student Services Counselor Sam Bruno, the new daily schedule will address two important issues at SST. “First, the new schedule allows us to accept more new students. Our first year enrollment is up about 20%. We had too many students on waiting lists and now most students are getting their first choice. I’m also pleased with the increase of students returning for a second year. Right now, that increase looks to be close to 40%!” The next issue that the new schedule addresses is that of class size. “Due to demand over the last few years, many of our first year classes were over enrolled,” says Bruno. “Our new schedule of two first-year classes creates reasonable class sizes that will improve instruction, provide a safe environment, and give our students the attention they need to acquire the program’s competencies and skills. With a variety of equipment and materials and limited lab space, a manageable class size is crucial to success in today’s Career & Technical Education classroom.” The Seacoast School of Technology, formerly the Region #18 Vocational Center, opened in September of 1980 and continues to offer Career & Technical Education programs designed to help students make a successful transition from high school to a variety of postsecondary colleges and opportunities. “We’re excited and proud to have reached this important milestone,” stated SST Principal Nancy Pierce. “Our 25th Anniversary Celebration will highlight our students, teachers, supporters, and programs. We’ll also focus on our plans for the future as we look to develop new programs, upgrade our labs and classrooms, and continue to provide quality Career and Technical Education to our SST high schools and communities.”

The annual Parent Orientation Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 8th, at 6:30 pm in the Talbot Gymnasium at Exeter High School and the SST Open House will be held on Wednesday, October 6th at 6:30 pm.
