EHS Model United Nations (UN) Students and Advisors Travel to NYC

Twenty-four model UN students, with their two advisors, Mrs. DeSimone and Mr. Doucet, experienced a whirlwind tour of NYC. Departing on Friday, November 18th from EHS at 6:00 AM, they traveled to NYC to visit the UN Headquarters by 11:00 AM and toured the UN Building, passing through the Security Council, General Assembly, the Trusteeship Council, and viewing all the exhibits and incredible pieces of art donated to the UN from around the world. The tour was followed by a UN Briefing on Iraq by Hamid Abdeljaber, Chief of Middle East Radio Unit (Radio and Television Service- News and Media Division). The advisors reported that our students asked great questions. Next on the tour was a trip to the Empire State Building, a view of the Statue of Liberty and the Twin Towers site. From there it was back on the bus and off to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner, passing Carnegie Hall, and Radio City Music Hall, as well as the constant busy streets of NYC. After dinner the group left for home and arrived back at EHS at 11:10 PM.

The EHS Model UN club is a co-curricular, year-long activity open to all EHS students. The Model UN program is found in many high schools across the country and internationally. Model UN activities are designed to increase participants knowledge of, and engagement in the goal of the United Nations, to “bring all nations of the world together to work for peace and development, based on the principles of justice, human dignity and the well-being of all people.” For more information about the EHS Model UN program, contact one of the advisors: Elizabeth DeSimone or Eric Doucet.
