CMS Music Boosters
April 11 , 2006

IN attendance: Jennifer Ramsay, Carol Bridges, Eric Kobb, Julie Andersen, Cathy Hammon, Janet Szarmach, Kim Whitham, Dean Merrill ( insurance agent)

Meeting called to order at 6:30.

Treasurer's report : Music Fun Night, including donations, profit = 349.69 Treasurer's report reviewed and accepted.

Discussion re: " music fun night" - even though a profit was made - not well attended. How well was the date advertised? Some suggestions were made for next year's event.

New Business: Eric introduced Dean Merrill to the group. Eric had invited him to talk to the group concerning the possibility of The Music Boosters, as a group taking out an insurance policy to cover music -related activities held at CMS. This issue had become more of an emergency this week ( of April 11) , as instrumental lessons given after school at CMS were in danger of being discontinued as well as the fate of the summer band camp. Mr. Merrill presented an insurance proposal to the group that would have The Music Boosters be the holder of the policy that would cover music activities afterschool hours. Members of the group had questions and concerns about liability.

Questions were also raised concerning becoming a non-profit organization. Would this provide protection for the officers of the group, as well as coverage for music related activities? Carol would contact an attorney that she is acquainted with, will contact Eric concerning these issues.

This issue needs to be resolved before sending out information to parents re: Summer Band Camp.

There may be a need for an emergency booster's meeting before our next scheduled one.

Other business: Spring Concerts: Chorus: April 19, 20 -- there will be intermissions. There are cookies and water left from the Music Fun night- these could be used for the snacks at intermission. Carol will make calls for baked goods. Band: May 16, 17 Should we do a bake sale at these concerts?

Jen introduced a new fundraising idea: At Lincoln St. Elem. - textiles are collected and recycled. Would this mean we would need space for a large collection bin? Jen would find out more..

Eric requested $880.00 for the trip on May 20 to Six Flags.

Meeting adjourned at 7:40.

Next meeting : May 1, Monday at 6:30 in Band Room - Important discussions will be held.
