The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is the only
nationally representative, continuing assessment of America's students
in a variety of key subject areas. NAEP assessments have been
administered in the fourth, eighth, and twelfth grades in reading, math,
science, and writing for more than 33 years. The federal
government awards Title I funding to each state contingent upon schools,
selected at random, participating in the NAEP. The State of NH
expects all schools that are selected to participate in the winter
testing.
NAEP directs how many randomly selected students are tested in each
school, with the reading and math tests taking approximately 90 minutes.
Parents/Guardians of the selected students will receive a letter of
notification after the first of the year.
NAEP is used to track comparisons of trends in student achievement in
elementary and secondary schools throughout the nation and is commonly
referred to as "The Nation's Report Card".
