Question 1 - SCS - What do you like about this school?
Topic 1 - Administration
Accessible (1) Administration is always accessible
  Great (2)
Office (1) Always willing and able to help out with questions
  Support (4) Support from principal
Topic 2 - Extra Curricular Activities
After school program (1) After school book study group
Topic 3 - School
  Atmosphere (7) Positive atmosphere
Facility (1) I like that our classroom/building management is consistent because we use Responsive Classroom techniques.
Topic 4 - Staff
Attitude (1) The positive attitudes towards students as learners.
Communication (3) Teachers communicate openly and honestly between each other and aides.
Support (6) The people who work here are very supportive and positive.
Teamwork (1) Sunshine committee's ideas to bring staff together.
Caring (12) Caring, nurturing, intelligent and compassionate staff.
Topic 5 - Students
  Students (2) The students

Question 2 - What do you wish was different at this school?
Topic 1 - Academic
Curriculum (3) Time for "outdoor" activities that use the academics and teach the basic academics in a physical way.
One thing that changed this year is that teachers no longer join their students in computer class. Before, I knew what students were doing and it was easier to integrate technology with what they were doing in class. Also, I knew what skills they had and could see some individuals shine that were not as strong in the traditional classroom.
I see more and more added onto our already demanding curriculum based solely on items being tested on standardized tests. I don't believe this should be such a strong, driving force behind what is being taught to our students.
  Enrichment (1) More enrichment activities/classes/opportunities.
Extra Help (1) More use of differentiated instruction/co-teaching and less pullout.
Schedule (1) The schedule is too tight making for difficult transitions. Would like to see more school gatherings but realize space is a huge issue.
Testing (1) I'm concerned with move towards more testing. It takes up valuable classroom time, isn't necessarily aligned with our curriculum or what we know about best practices in education.
Topic 2 - Administration
Assistant Principal (1) I wish the principal had a vice principal to help her with logistics so that she could dedicate more time and energy to the big picture.
Communication (1) Morale could be better as could communication between administration and staff.
Topic 3 - Parent
Involvement (1) Wish the parents were more involved
Topic 4 - School
Facility (3) Air conditioning, new gym, more staff bathrooms
Volunteer (1) Parents coming into the classroom to volunteer
Topic 5 - Staff
Training (1) I wish we gave staff more training before assigning them.
Topic 6 - Students
Behavior (1) I wish we had higher and consistent expectations for student conduct and behavior.
Topic 7 - Teachers
  Communication (1) Better communication
  Salary (1)
Schedule (1) I wish that planning time for teachers was as important to scheduling as it is to the teachers. We do not have enough uninterrupted time to plan for units and lessons. The periods are only 40 minutes long so as a result prep/planning periods are 40 minutes long.
