Stephen Adler has been selected as the next principal for MSS. He is currently a principal with the Lexington, MA school system and previously served as a principal in ME and NH. He starts with Exeter on July 1st.

of the three final candidates.
This was held in the Main Street School Library.

Public Forum to meet the Finalists for Principal

The MSS Principal Search Committee cordially invites you to attend a “Meet the Finalists Night” being held on Tuesday, April 8 in the multi-purpose room at MSS. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. with the first of three finalists being introduced at 6:30. Questions from the audience will be accepted at the door from 6:15 until 6:30. Those questions will be then be forwarded to the moderator who in turn will ask the finalist to respond. As stated above, finalist #1 will begin the interview session at 6:30, finalist #2 follows at 7:15, and finalist #3 follows at 8:00. The names of the finalists will be released to the public in the next few days.

The Search Committee is seeking input on the finalists from those in attendance. Feed back sheets will be distributed at the beginning of each candidate’s interview and then be picked up after the candidate finishes. Results from the feed back sheets will be used by the committee as part of the decision making process. A final interview session will take place with the Exeter School Board on Tuesday, April 22.

MSS Elementary Principal Job Description:

Qualifications (Minimum):

  • N.H. certification or evidence of certification eligibility as a principal. 
  • Master’s Degree in Education
  • Demonstrated ability in both instructional and curriculum development.
  • Elementary school teaching experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of special education
  • Administrative experience at the building, district, or state level.

Reports to: Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.

Supervises: All staff assigned to the school.

Performance responsibilities:

  • Supervise the school’s educational programs.
  • Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all School Board policies by the school’s staff and students.
  • Assist in the development, revision, and evaluation of the elementary curriculum.
  • Supervise and evaluate, along with the Assistant Principal, all professional, para professional, administrative and non-instructional personnel assigned to the school.
  • Assist in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school’s professional staff.
  • Chairs Teacher Assistance Team meetings. May be called upon to participate in/or chair special education team meetings and 504 meetings.
  • Assumes responsibility for placement of students.
  • Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business.
  • Plans and supervises fire drills, lockdowns, and emergency preparedness program.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according due process to the rights of students.
  • Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers.
  • Supervises the preparation of all school reports for the Central Office.
  • Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of students.
  • Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
  • Manages and prepares building-based budget.
  • Acts as a liaison between school and the community, interpreting the activities and policies of the school, and encouraging community participation in school life.
  • When necessary, arranges for special conferences between parents and teachers.
  • Recommends the removal of a teacher or para professional whose work is unsatisfactory according to established evaluation procedures.
  • Conducts meetings with the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school
  • Assumes responsibility with the District’s Facilities Manager for the safety and administration of the school plant.
  • Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the superintendent or his/her designee may assign.
