Emergency & Safety Procedures
SAU 16 Safety Program Manual (pdf)
Emergencies are unexpected, unpredictable and take many forms. SAU 16
staff are trained in emergency procedures. Each school has thorough and
customized emergency procedures and contact information that is posted
in each building.
AlertNow is a
new rapid communication system that was put into place in 2007 for all
SAU 16 schools. Read a Parents FAQ (pdf)
about the system.

SEABROOK EVACUATION FOR SAU 16 SCHOOLS
(Reprinted from the 2002 Emergency Public Information Calendar for
Neighbors of Seabrook Station)
If you Have School Children
During an emergency, precautionary actions could be taken to ensure
the safety and security of school children. These actions could include
school closing or precautionary evacuation of schools. They could be
taken before actions were needed by the general public.
If an emergency existed before the start of the school day, schools
could be closed, as they are when there is the danger of a storm.
If schools were in session, students could be evacuated early. If so,
responsible school officials would take the children to the reception
center assigned to their school. The reception center for each school is
the same as the reception center for the community in which the school
is located (see below). Parents would meet their children at the
reception center. To help the evacuation effort, you are asked not to
go to your children’s school(s) to pick them up. You would be kept
informed by radio broadcasts of the status of the transfer of school
children to reception centers. Do not try to call the school. The
telephone lines would be needed for official business.
