BRENTWOOD SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
Monday January 10, 2005
6:30 p.m. – Swasey Central School
Members Present: A. Chesno, J. Hayes, T. Hannan, M. Johnson, and M. Wilson.
Administration Present: J. Frew, Asst. Superintendent; J. Ostrowski, Principal; N. Lunney, Asst. Business Manager.
Others Present: E. Gallo, Member Playground Committee; V. Knutson.
1. Signing of Manifests began at 6:30 p.m.
2. Chair A. Chesno called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m.
3. Approval of Minutes
MOTION - T. Hannan moved that the Brentwood School Board accept the minutes of the December 13, 2004 meeting as presented, seconded. M. Johnson Vote – unanimous.
4. Visitor Discussion
Swasey School Parent, V. Knutson and the Board Members discussed the location of and timing of posting of board’s minutes. Swasey School Parent, V. Knutson informed the Board that R. Alder had resigned for the Cooperative School Board and asked about the mechanism for replacement. Chair A. Chesno stated that the decision was up to the Cooperative School Board.
Brentwood Community Playground Committee Member E. Gallo was in attendance and Chair A. Chesno informed her that the School Board will consider funding the request at the end of the school year depending on other spending needs between now and the end of June and would be in favor of supporting a warrant for the completion of the playground for the 2006 Annual Meeting. Playground Committee Member E. Gallo stated that the Committee would continue with their fund raising efforts in the mean time.
5. Report from the Chair
Joint Chairs Meeting December – It was reported that at the December meeting the following items were discussed:
School Bus Safety
Principal Search
School District Moderator/District Clk. Chair A. Chesno reported that the position of School Board Moderator and District Clerk were vacant and that the board would have to make appoints to these positions. The Members discussed possible candidates for these positions. In addition, the Chair reported that she had received a letter of resignation from the Brentwood School Board Secretary. The Board Members discussed potential candidates for this position.
Teachers Contract – The Chair reported that the Swasey School Teacher’s Union had ratified their contract.
6. Report from the Principal
Principal J. Ostrowski reported that the present enrollment at Swasey School is 364 students. She also encouraged the Board members to visit the Swasey School Website to see the newspaper, which has been prepared by interested 4th and 5th graders, facilitated by Mrs. Lisa Swasey, an intermediate grade teacher.
7. Report From the Central Office Administration
Asst. Supt. J. Frew reviewed the Financial Reports and the schedule of upcoming meetings with the Board Members.
MOTION – J. Hayes moved that the Brentwood School Board enter into non-public session at 7:36 p.m. in accordance to RSA 91-A3II-a, seconded M. Johnson. Vote – A. Chesno – yes, J. Hayes-yes, T. Hannan-yes, M. Johnson – yes, M. Wilson – yes. Motion carries.
Non Public Session adjourned 8:45 p
MOTION –M. Wilson moved that the Brentwood School Board Ratify the Brentwood Teacher’s three-year contract, which becomes effective for the 2004-2005 school year, seconded M. Johnson. Vote - unanimous.
