1. The signing of Manifests began at 6:00 p.m.
2. Chair Chesno called the meeting to order at 6:16 p.m.
Everyone joined in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
3. Approval of Minutes
The School Board discussed the purpose of assessment and how the resulting information should be shared and/or compared. Assistant Superintendent Frew will check with NWEA to see if they are able provide results for all schools in a usable format rather than having the SAU compile data internally. The Board feels that it is important to present information regarding student performance to the community and is interested in what information NWEA has that addresses this in a meaningful manner.
MOTION – J. Hayes moved that the Brentwood School Board accept the minutes of the June 13, 2005 meeting as amended; T. Hannan seconded. Vote – Unanimous.
4. Report from the Chair
Chair Chesno noted that the Joint Chairs are suggesting a Joint Board retreat and were interested in feedback on possible dates. The Brentwood Board suggested September 24, 2005. The Brentwood Board shared perceptions about the Joint School Board meeting(s).
Chair Chesno noted that the Joint Boards will consider a proposed policy addressing staff members tutoring for profit outside of school hours. Brentwood has an administrative procedure from a former Board Policy that prevents staff from tutoring their own students, students in the grade level below, or students that have been in their classes the previous year. Brentwood staff members may not tutor privately within the school facility.
5. Personnel
The Board discussed the status of teacher Stephanie Rand. The Board is aware that Mrs. Rand will not be returning to her position at the beginning of school due to illness. The Board has authorized Principal Ostrowski to offer a contract for a second grade teaching position.
6. Visitor Discussion
None
7. Old/New Business
Board Member Knutson thanked Principal Ostrowski and Chair Chesno for their planning of and presentation at the 5th Grade Celebration.
Board Member T. Hannan noted a request for BRC to move the backstop and fencing from its current location to the location of the new diamond in the northeast corner. The Board agreed to this and asked that Board Member T. Hannan check with Richard Wendell on the schedule to do this work so that it doesn’t interfere with his plan for the grounds and to ensure the appropriate installation.
The School Board has decided that the 05-06 Board meetings will be on the 3rd Monday of each month beginning at 6:30. The next Board scheduled meeting will be September 19, 2005.
10.Adjournment
MOTION – V. Knutson moved that the Brentwood School Board Meeting adjourn at 7: 18 p.m.; J. Hayes seconded. Vote - Unanimous.
