BRENTWOOD SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

Thursday, July 12, 2007, 5:00 p.m.

Swasey Central School

 

Members Present:  Anne Marie Chesno, Chair; Virginia Knutson, Vice-Chair; Liz Faria; and, Tim Hannan (left the meeting at 5:40 p.m.)

 

Absent:  Gary Whitmarsh

 

Administration Present:  Jerry Frew, Assistant Superintendent; Joan Ostrowski, Principal

 

Others Present:  Elyse Gallo Seeley; Phyllis Thompson; Cecelia Hart (arrived at 6:00)

 

1.    Chair Chesno called the meeting to order at 5:09 p.m.

      Everyone joined in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. 

 

2. Approval of Minutes

Motion - Board Member Hannan moved that the Brentwood School Board accept the Public and Non-Public minutes of June 26, 2007 as written. Board Member Knutson seconded. 

Vote – 3 Yes; 1 Abstain.

 

3.     Board Business

Chair Chesno shared that the Board had received a Level III grievance that they would review t in non-public session.  The related contract language was read aloud.  Due to the fact that the term ‘school working day’ has not been clearly defined, this meeting to notify the Board was scheduled within five days of the grievance being submitted.   Receiving notification requires the scheduling of a hearing prior to August 24, 2007.  It was determined to meet on August 13, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. for this purpose.

 

4.    Non-public Session

Board Member Hannan began to make a motion at for the School Board to enter non-public session under RSA 91-A:3 II (c).  Ms. Gallo Seeley requested that the grievance be reviewed in public session.  Discussion regarding whether to continue with public session or move to non-public ensued.  Board members expressed concern about continuing in public session without benefit of legal council especially since the document to be reviewed could contain references to people other than the grievant.  Board Member Hannan moved to enter non-public session at 5:22 p.m. under RSA 91-A:3 II (c).  Board Member Knutson seconded.  Roll Call Vote:  A. Chesno, yes; V. Knutson, yes; L. Faria, yes; and T. Hannan, yes.  Motion carries.

 

MOTION – Board Member Faria moved that the Board adjourn from non-public session at 6:13 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A:3 II (c); Board Member Knutson seconded.  Roll Call Vote:  A. Chesno, yes; V. Knutson, yes; and, E. Faria, yes.  Motion carries.

 

5.    Adjournment  

Due to the need to adjourn and after a very brief discussion, Visitor Cecelia Hart was asked to submit a letter requesting to be placed on the agenda for a future School Board meeting.

 

MOTION – Board Member Faria moved to adjourn the Brentwood School Board Meeting at 6:17 p.m.; Board Member Knutson seconded.   Vote – Unanimous
