Personnel, Policy, and Communications Committee Minutes

Present:  Greg Kann, Linda Henderson, Kim Casey,  Dr. Arthur Hanson, Patty Lovejoy, Peter Stackhouse, Tom O’Malley, Robin Scott

 

Meeting called to order at 7:02 p.m.

 

Request to hire a position titled- “School Improvement Coordinator”:  Dr Hanson discussed the need to hire a School Improvement Coordinator on a consult basis. This position would entail assisting Peter Stackhouse on the SAU 16 wide literacy initiative to promote and enhance reading and writing skills across the curriculum.  This position, if authorized by the board, would be for the 2005-2006 fiscal school year and paid for through grants and the regular curriculum budget.  Motion to full board. 

 

Request for an extended leave during a sabbatical year: Committee agreed to accept Dr. Hanson’s recommendation to grant permission to extend Peter Lund’s (tech-ed teacher) request to take an extended leave of absence of one year to finish his degree.  Motion to full board.

 

Principal search:  A brief update on the principal search was given. As of January 3rd, 2005, 13 more applications were received to begin the principal search process again. 

 

University of Michigan Survey:  The University of Michigan has again contacted the Exeter High School to participate in a “Monitoring the Future” survey,  that samples student’s attitudes and behaviors regarding drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. Due to the concern of loss class time to give the survey, this has been deferred for a decision until the next academic year.

 

Review of PP & C goals:  The administration will present an update in February to the full board on the progress and implementation of mixed ability grouping.
