ERCSD Curriculum Committee Meeting

November 28, 2007 – 7:30 PM

Present:            Townley Chisholm, Sally Oxnard, Tomasen Carey and Patty Lovejoy

 

Administration Present: Arthur Hanson, Victor Sokul, Cindy Freyberger,
                                                Tom O’Malley, Tony Baldasaro and Bill Perkins

 

1.   EHS Freshman Transition:

• Issued report (attached for board members not present)

 

2.   EHS Principal’s Recommendation for New Courses:

• Mr. Sokul reviewed the courses that were requested by departments and the courses that will go forward (list attached for board members not present)
• Discussion of the designation between 100 Level, 200 Level, 300 Level and 900 Level courses
• Mr. Chisholm voiced his opinion that one of the A/P courses for Social Studies be approved
• Superintendent voiced his opinion that this course approval process has been in place for many years, and since Mr. Sokul has gone through this process for this year, his recommendations should be honored
• Mr. Sokul discussed with the committee the concept of the two year course of studies handbook instead of a one year handbook

 

3.   Principals Request for New Staff

• Superintendent noted that the final decision on staffing recommendations will come at the January Budget Workshop
• Mr. Sokul is proposing a 1.8 FTE increase in his staffing (attached for board members not present) and Mr. O’Malley is proposing 1 ESOL staff member

 

4.   Job Descriptions for Administrators

• These job descriptions will be placed in the December 11, 2007 board packets

 

5.   Guest Speakers for Future Meetings

• Dr. Oxnard is checking with Marilyn Decker to see if she can speak at the
  January 22, 2007 committee meeting on Science curriculums initiatives
