Communications Committee Meeting Minutes

January 22, 2008 – SAU 16 Conference Room

Administration:     Arthur Hanson, Victor Sokul, Tom O’Malley, Tony Baldasaro, Bill Perkins

 

Guest:    Dr. Andrew Smith, UNH Survey Center, CMS teachers

 

1. Victor Sokul issued and discuss the genesis of the draft EHS Mission Statement.  After discussion, on a motion by Lucy Cushman, seconded by Tomasen Carey and committee voted to send the draft mission statement to the full board.
2. Dr. Andy Smith from the UNH Survey Center was present to assist discussion regarding an EHS & CMS parent/teacher survey.  Dr. Smith’s thoughts were as listed:
   1. Short Survey
   2. Easy to use, if short
   3. The Parent/Teacher/Student Satisfaction Survey administered three years ago would be a good starting point
   4. Know what data that the board wants
   5. Address key questions
   6. Attempt to identify “problems” with survey
   7. Rate questions on the original survey to determine which ones are important to ask again
   8. Pre-Test a parent group with a “sample” survey to see if questions make sense to them
   9. Questions should not be multiple on a survey, i.e., including “and”
   10. Survey could quantify “what is heard” in the community
   11. Three years is a good time frame to redo a survey

 

CMS teachers asked the rational for the survey and how the board intends to use the survey results.  They hoped that if change is required that it be accomplished over a reasonable amount of time.

 

It was determined to have the board rate the questions (1-3) on the original survey before the next board meeting so they could turn in their surveys at the February meeting to forward to Dr. Smith.
