STRATHAM SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES
Members Present: John Hazekamp, Bob O’Sullivan, Jim Dubela
Administration: Tom Fosher, Principal, Steve Gagnon, Assistant Principal, Steve Kossakoski, Assistant Superintendent
1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 AM
2. NEW BUSINESS
2.1. Staff Makeup of Flood Days
Mr. Fosher reviewed his proposal for working with professional staff on June 19
and 20. Part of the time would be devoted to data analysis and the remainder
would be devoted to reconfiguring classrooms and/or programs. Mr. Dubela made
a motion for the professional staff to complete the school year as contracted
by working on June 19 and 20. June 20 will follow the early release schedule
and end at 1:00. Mr. Hazekamp seconded the motion. All members voted in
favor.
2.2. Adequate Yearly Progress
Dr. Kossakoski reviewed the process for determining how Stratham Memorial School
was designated as not making adequate yearly progress. The school's overall
scores in mathematics and reading are outstanding and are among the best in the
state. However, of the 46 students in the subgroup entitled “educational
disability” an insufficient number made the progress necessary to satisfy No
Child Left Behind requirements. Steve Gagnon reviewed the data and discussed
the possibility of filing an appeal. Mr. Fosher stated that he has filed the
necessary paperwork to move forward with an appeal. Mr. O'Sullivan stated that
he would like the SMS administration to find a method for raising the scores of
students in the educational disability subgroup and to challenge high achieving
students as well. The Board discussed the issue further and requested that a
team of administrators and staff members be compensated, if necessary, to
conduct data analysis and to develop plans for improvement during the summer
break. This topic will continue to be addressed at the June meeting of the
Stratham School Board.
3. ADJOURNMENT: Mr. Hazekamp made a motion to adjourn at 8:55 AM. Seconded by Mr. Dubela. All members in favor.
Respectfully submitted:
Steve Kossakoski, Assistant Supt. of Schools
