Graphics File Preparations

Files are limited to 100K in size. Larger files will not upload. You will probably have to reduce the size of your photo from your digital camera before it can be uploaded.  For more information on this, see the graphics page.

Graphics files must be .gif or .jpg (or .jpeg) file type. These are the only file types that will display properly in web pages.

Graphics file names:

Change the file name in your directory to shorten it, eliminate spaces and special characters, and make all letters lowercase. Numbers are ok.

Naming convention:

xxmmddyydescription.ext

Having a standard naming convention keeps it easier to track files not being used anymore for cleanup purposes.

Example of filename: kw100804sedona.jpg

Graphics files can be saved off other webpages by right-clicking on the picture and choosing "Save Picture As".  Save it to your hard drive or network location, rename it, check the size and then upload it from there.  You must check copyright permissions before you use graphics.  Some websites allow you to use them and others do not.  If the website does not say, you do not have the right to use unless you contact the owner and ask permission.

School photos - you must have parental permission to post any pictures of students.

File Uploads

  1. Display your BW webpage – go into edit mode (click on blue wrench on bottom right) – and enter your password

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and select the Upload_File icon

  3. A separate page will appear that asks you to <browse> and locate the file on your computer or network location. Find the desired file (hopefully renamed as suggested above), highlight it with your mouse, and click <open>.

  4. Press <upload>. If the upload works, “File Successfully Loaded!” displays.
If the upload does not work, check the file size (in windows folder, click view --> details and one of the columns should show size - file must be under 100KB. If you still have trouble, contact the tech. coordinator or webmaster.

  5. Click on “Return to webpage” and enter your password again

  6. Scroll to the area on your page where you want to display the picture file

  7. Click on the image icon to display the instruction window and copy the line with the code (highlight the line and CTRL-C) and then go to your edit webpage and in the desired location, paste the line of code (CTRL-V) or type the following code:

    <img src=images/tpix/xxxxx.xxx>

Then replace the xxxxx.xxx with your file name . extension, i.e. kw100804sedona.jpg

  8. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and press <Update Page>

  9. Scroll down to the bottom of the edit screen again and click on display page and your picture should now appear on your webpage.

All uploaded files automatically go into the images/tpix/ directory.

It's that easy to upload your pictures, clipart and graphics files so that you can use them on your BW webpages.

You can also upload webpages that are created using other sources and access them from your BW webpages.  Proceed to upload webpages instructions for more information on this process.
