Keep your password secure - change it when you first get your webpage, make it
something not easily recognized and keep it secure. These are public
websites!
When you first get your
website, you can work on it and then when you are ready, request a link from
your school's website. You must request this link to have your site available to
the public.
Once your site is linked,
all updates and changes are immediately available on the internet.
Websites only support graphics in .jpg or .gif format. If you have graphics in
other file formats, they must be converted in order for you to use them on a web
page. Try out the
Irfanview program if you need a graphics program to change graphics format.
If you're linking to a web page or site, make sure to precede the URL with
"http://".
An underline on a web page generally means a hyperlink to another web page or
site. Try not to use underline as emphasis or for headings.
File sizes equate to page access time - the larger your page and
accompanying graphics, the longer it will take for your page to download to
someone's computer. Try to keep total page sizes between 50K and 100K.
BW pages with text are very small - under 10K, but graphics files can add up
fast. Try to limit your pages to a few pictures and then link to another page if
you have more.
Graphics images need to be resized and saved using a graphics program. Try out
the
Irfanview program if you need a graphics program to resize pictures.
Do not post students' pictures without parental permission and use only first
names. Review the SAU 16 website rules.
Test your site every time you update it!
