Newfields Elementary School Safety Project
The Newfields Elementary School (NES) Safety Project is a planned campus infrastructure initiative designed to significantly improve student safety and traffic management with minimal impact on local taxpayers. The project focuses on reorganizing the school's traffic flow by implementing a widened, one-way traffic loop and establishing dedicated "no-car zones" to reduce student-vehicle contact. Safety features also include a relocated crosswalk equipped with an ADA-compliant ramp and a blinking yellow alert light to warn incoming drivers. To handle busy drop-offs and community events, the plan expands parking by clearly marking all paved areas to add 15 new spaces, while also leveling a gravel overflow lot to accommodate more than 50 vehicles for school, town, and NYAA events.
